Emerald Estate was founded by Kimi Costar, who has fostered this dream since the beginning of her career in nursing. She’s worked as an RN for nearly thirty years, providing both hospice care and acute care in a preoperative setting. Kimi has always felt drawn to care for the elderly population, a population so often overlooked despite the wisdom and stories they have to share. Throughout her time in the hospice field, Kimi visited hundreds of residential care homes and continually felt dissatisfied with the standard of living they provided—they hardly seemed to value the day-to-day enjoyment of life for their residents or cater to their individual needs. She felt as though these facilities were merely a space for the elderly to exist, whereas she dreamed of cultivating a home for residents to truly live. However, this dream had taken a backseat as Kimi focused on raising her two children and working nights to be present with her daughters during the day. After prioritizing motherhood for nearly two decades, Kimi was presented with the opportunity to pursue her own lifelong dream.
